Job Title: Personal Support Worker (PSW) (this posting is for short term contract only)

Role Summary: A Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a vital contributor to the healthcare system, dedicated to providing compassionate care for individuals who are elderly, living with chronic illnesses, or managing disabilities. Their role encompasses not only assisting with daily living activities but also offering emotional and social support, fostering a holistic approach to enhancing the well-being and quality of life of those they serve.
Key Responsibilities:
•Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption
• Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
• Assist clients with oral hygiene, hair care, dressing, and all activities of daily living
• Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
• May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, assisting in the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of home care agency supervisor or nurse
•May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes & making beds
•Report any changes in health condition, or safety risks to immediate supervisor
Key Competencies:
•Demonstrated ability to work with patients with dementia or cognitive impairments
• Demonstrated knowledge and practice of good body mechanics
• Good listening skills
• Ability to understand, interpret and carry out written or verbal instructions
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
• Functional proficiency in English & French (oral and written)
• Cultural education and experience
• Able to stand, bend, squat, kneel and reach freely; able to freely lift up to 35 pounds • Ability to travel up to 45 minutes if needed
• Overtime may be required from time to time
Education:
• Graduate of a Personal Support Worker Program from a Community College
