Augusta Township is a municipality in Eastern Ontario in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. Augusta is also one of the oldest townships in Ontario dating back to the 1700’s. Position Summary:

The scope of this position is meant to identify relevant but broad areas of contribution to the community and is not restricted to any specific duties that may be listed. The scope encompasses a safety-oriented teamwork approach and involves assistance to other departments as may be requested and/or required.
Reporting directly to the Public Works Manager, the Public Works Labourer position encompasses assisting the Public Works Department with a wide range of seasonal maintenance.

Duties:

Assist with road maintenance.
Monitor/collect weight tickets during gravel haul.
Grass trimming; will use a heavy-duty industrial grass trimmer.
Clearing brush, debris, and trees.
Ditch cleaning.
Traffic control as a flag or signaling person; prolonged standing while possibly holding a sign (training will be provided).
Assist with general maintenance and repair.
Maintain/clean municipal facilities.
Litter pickup.
Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Manager or Working Foreman.

Qualifications:

• Must be 30 years old or under (position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs grant).
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Current Police Check.
• Must hold a valid G2 driver’s license with acceptable Ontario Drivers Abstract.
• Must provide their own safety shoes (Township will provide all other safety equipment).
• Ability to lift up to 20 kg.
• Ability to work outdoors in warm, summer weather.
• College or University preferred. Civil engineering field preferred.

Skills:

• Capable of working individually and as part of a team.
• Effective interpersonal, planning and organizational, and problem-solving skills are an asset.

Working Conditions:

• This is a seasonal position taking place from May to August.
• Work at a number of outdoor locations within the municipality.
• Interact with the public at large.
• Hours of work from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Thursday (40 hours/week).
